U.S. EPA Announces Deregulatory Actions

We have previously provided a summary of the high-level changes announced by the Trump administration through Executive Orders, and their potential impact on the decarbonization of transport sector. The EPA, on March 12, 2025 announced several major deregulatory steps, listed here.

Here’s a list of actions pertinent to the transport sector and its decarbonization:

 

CO2 Endangerment Finding

Reconsideration of the 2009 Endangerment Finding and regulations and actions that rely on that finding.

 

Overhauling the Social Cost of Carbon

The social cost of carbon (SCC) provides a yardstick by which to measure the cost-effectiveness of new standards, and could also be used for carbon trading mechanisms.

 

Revisions of vehicle CO2 standards

Reconsideration of light-duty, medium-duty, and heavy-duty vehicle regulations. 

 

 

 Particulate Matter (Ambient) Standards 

Reconsideration of Particulate Matter National Ambient Air Quality Standards (PM2.5 NAAQS).

 

 Environmental Justice

Terminating Environmental Justice at the EPA.
